PROJECT
“Language learning and application in gastronomy” Application No: 2022-2-CZ01-KA210-YOU-000091199
The mission of our Czech-Polish project is to provide Ukrainian refugees with the tools they need to not only adapt to their new environment, but to thrive and contribute meaningfully to their host country.
Our project is dedicated to facilitating the integration of Ukrainian refugees into the Czech and Polish communities through the provision of basic language education in Czech and Polish. Knowledge of local languages is a cornerstone of successful integration, enabling refugees to communicate, find employment and establish meaningful relationships.
In addition to language training, we try to equip refugees with valuable professional skills. We offer them culinary courses to help them become qualified chefs and waiters. This not only increases their employability, but also encourages them to share their unique culture and culinary traditions with their new communities, which promotes cultural exchange and understanding.
By providing language education and training, we aim to empower Ukrainian refugees, promote their independence and facilitate their integration into the labour market.
LANGUAGE COURSES
Our language courses are a stepping stone for the successful integration of Ukrainian refugees into the Czech and Polish communities. In these courses, we provide comprehensive language education to help refugees improve their Czech and Polish. Mastery of local languages is crucial for effective communication, which in turn opens the door to job opportunities and meaningful social contacts. By offering these long-term language courses, we aim to ensure that refugees not only adapt to their new environment, but thrive in their new home and become active and engaged members of the community.
In the Czech Republic
In the Czech Republic, the lessons take place at the House for Children and Youth in Nový Bor, where a group of young Ukrainians under the guidance of teacher Mrs Meidinger improve their Czech language skills twice a week. Besides theory, the lessons are also focused on practice: interactive exercises, games and discussions, thanks to which they try out their Czech in practical situations.
In Poland
In Poland, two groups of Ukrainian youth meet twice a week at the municipal library in Boleslawiec.
GASTRONOMY COURSES
Our language courses are a stepping stone for the successful integration of Ukrainian refugees into the Czech and Polish communities. In these courses, we provide comprehensive language education to help refugees improve their Czech and Polish. Mastery of local languages is crucial for effective communication, which in turn opens the door to job opportunities and meaningful social contacts. By offering these long-term language courses, we aim to ensure that refugees not only adapt to their new environment, but thrive in their new home and become active and engaged members of the community.
SHARING EXPERIENCES
In the last activity of the project, we will process the knowledge, insights and experiences gained during the project implementation and share them with other people in order to facilitate a more effective long-term integration of Ukrainians and other foreigners into our countries.
This activity is based on feedback and monitoring. We collect feedback from participants and trainers through evaluation questionnaires. This feedback helps us to understand what progress participants have made, what their expectations were and how their newly acquired language skills have affected their lives. We will also find out which methods we have used have been most successful and which ones need to be fine-tuned.
The activity also includes an evaluation by our trainers, coordinator and practice leaders, who provide valuable recommendations for future learning activities.
The results of the project evaluation will be presented at the final workshop at the end of the project and will also be available on our project website, which is available in Czech, Polish and Ukrainian. In order to keep the participants and the general public informed, I will create a Facebook page. This platform provides up-to-date information on course availability, project updates and a space for participants to connect, motivate each other and address any questions.
The outputs of this final activity are not only beneficial for our organisations but also for all participants in the target group. The emphasis on evaluation and feedback from participants will guide us in offering similar language learning initiatives in the future.
